Investment funds at the lowest rates

Every Sharesies fund is built on the same low cost foundations. A single annual fund charge—nothing else. No fees to buy or sell, no currency exchange costs, and no subscription required.

And because they’re PIE funds, your returns are taxed at your prescribed investor rate (PIR), which for most people is lower than their income tax rate.

Funds built to keep more of your money working

Passive approach. Market returns, low fees.

Sharesies funds provide low cost access by investing in underlying index funds, and an active cash fund. That means lower costs, and a consistent strategy over time.

One fund. A whole asset class.

Each Sharesies fund provides exposure to a different asset class. Global shares, global bonds, or NZ cash—one fund gives you a simple investment, without the complexity of building it yourself.

Tax handled for you

All Sharesies funds are PIE funds. You are taxed at your PIR—often lower than your personal income tax rate. Sharesies handles the calculations including fees as a deductible expense.

No transaction fees. No FX fees. No plan fees.

There are no fees to buy or sell Sharesies funds. There are no currency exchange fees, and you don’t need to pay for a subscription to access. You only pay the annual fund charge—which is deducted from the fund itself, not added on top.

Still have questions?

Sharesies funds are low cost investment funds made by Sharesies. They invest directly in underlying index funds, that track market indices, and an active cash fund, giving you diversified exposure to global shares, global bonds, or NZ cash. Global shares and global bonds are passively managed, while the NZ cash fund is actively managed. All as simple NZD PIE funds with no transaction fees. More funds will be added to the range over time.

An index fund is a type of investment fund that tracks a market index—such as a global shares index or a bond index—rather than having a fund manager actively pick investments. This passive approach keeps fees low and returns consistent with the market being tracked.

Sharesies funds charge an annual fund charge only—from 0.10% depending on the fund. There are no transaction fees, no membership or currency conversion fees when you buy or sell. The annual fund charge is deducted from the fund itself, not added separately.

A portfolio investment entity (PIE) is a type of NZ investment fund where returns are taxed at your prescribed investor rate (PIR)—either 10.5%, 17.5%, or 28% depending on your income. This can be lower than your personal income tax rate. Fees are deductible and Sharesies handles the tax and issues an annual certificate.

Some are. The Sharesies Global Shares NZD Hedged Fund and the Sharesies Global Bond NZD Hedged Fund are hedged to the New Zealand dollar—this reduces the effect of exchange rate movements on the NZD value of your investment. The Sharesies Global Shares Fund is unhedged, so its NZD value can be affected by currency movements as well as market performance. The Sharesies NZ Cash Fund invests only in NZ assets, so currency hedging doesn't apply.

The difference is currency hedging. Both funds give you exposure to thousands of global companies across developed and emerging markets. The Sharesies Global Shares Fund is unhedged—the NZD value of your investment reflects both how the underlying companies perform and how the New Zealand dollar moves against other currencies. The Sharesies Global Shares NZD Hedged Fund reduces the effect of those exchange rate movements, so your returns more closely follow the performance of the underlying markets. Neither approach is better in all conditions—hedging can help when the NZD rises and work against you when it falls.

A passive index fund tracks a market index and aims to match its returns—keeping fees low by removing the need for active fund management. An actively managed fund employs a portfolio manager to try to outperform the market, typically at higher cost.

Yes. You can set up an auto-invest plan to invest in any Sharesies fund automatically on a regular schedule—weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. You can also use Investback with the Sharesies Spend card to invest into them automatically.

Yes. You can invest in one fund or any combination. Mixing funds across different asset classes—global shares, global bonds, and NZ cash—can help diversify your portfolio and manage risk across market conditions.
