Still have questions?

Yes, you can transfer NZX-listed investments you hold elsewhere into Sharesies for free, using your CSN (or Holder Number) and FIN. The transfer itself can take up to two business days to complete once requested.

Sharesies doesn't charge a fee to transfer shares in. Your existing broker or registry—for example, Link Market Services, Computershare, or Forsyth Barr—may charge their own fee on their end, so it's worth checking with them directly before you start.

The main difference is currency. Holding on the NZX means your trades and dividends settle in NZD, which removes the currency exchange fees and exchange rate exposure that come with holding the ASX-listed version. Which side makes sense for you depends on which currency you'd rather be exposed to and where the rest of your portfolio sits.

NZX trades settle on a T+2 cycle, meaning settlement happens two business days after your trade executes. This applies to both buy and sell orders, so sell proceeds typically become available to withdraw two business days after the sale.

As a general rule, NZX-listed PIE funds are treated differently for tax purposes than direct overseas investments, but how that applies to your FIF threshold depends on your specific holdings. Sharesies doesn't provide tax advice—for anything specific to your situation, it's best to check with a tax professional or the IRD website.
